Acupuncture

An acupuncture session involves gently inserting very thin steel needles in the body to bring about a healing response. Andriana uses the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine to guide where she will place a needle. This may be on the hands, feet, abdomen, back or head.

Generally speaking, the aim of an acupuncture treatment is to strengthen Qi (our basic life force) and unblock stagnant Qi.

You may feel a mild sensation when the needle is inserted. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin so as to minimise any discomfort. A lot of people the sensation as a tingling, warmth, or a dull, spreading sensation.

Chinese herbal medicine

Perhaps the most underestimated component of the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal medicine is a powerful way of restoring balance and harmony in the body. Some believe that the herbal medicine predated the practice of acupuncture.

The vast majority of Chinese herbs are made from plants, with a few animal and mineral derived ones. Chinese herbs are regulated by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), which ensures that herbal medicines meet quality and safety standards.

Andriana’s herbal formulas are packaged as powders, which makes them convenient and easy to consume. Different herbs have different properties. Herbal formulas are tailored for your individual needs.

Cupping

Cupping therapy involves placing warmed glass cups on the body, usually the back and hips, and helps to relieve tension, relax muscles and fascia and assist with respiratory issues.

Andriana practices fire cupping, a traditional form of cupping where a small flame is placed inside the cup to create a suction, and the warmed cup is then placed on the skin. A cupping treatment will leave pink or purple marks on the skin for a few days or so.

Gua sha

Gua sha translates as “scraping” and involves using a tool to scrape the the skin. Scraping improves the flow of Qi and Blood and assists circulation. It can be applied anywhere on the body, but is most often used on the neck, shoulders, back and face. Gua sha is an important technique in cosmetic acupuncture treatments. This is a natural alternative to injecting practices.
